Apprentices Drive Solid Business Growth |
Paul and Kim Fabian, owners of ChipsAway Telford and Wolverhampton have always believed that it is better for the long term health of a small team-based business such as theirs to ‘ grow their own’ employees.
They see the apprenticeship process as helping create valuable employees who grow with the business and absorb its ideals. The contrast is with recruits from other businesses who already have fixed ideas and for whom fitting into a close-knit team is a greater challenge. It has certainly worked for the Fabians as with four employees who have either completed their apprenticeships or are at various stages, they haven’t had a failure yet!
ChipsAway apprentices enter a two-year programme of supervised on the job training with one day a week day release at City of Wolverhampton College to learn specific skills. It has been well worth the effort as Dean Evans aged 24 has risen to the challenge of running their Wolverhampton branch already, having completed his apprenticeship two years ago. Steve Rowland aged 19 has just completed his apprenticeship and become a father almost simultaneously. Todd Bagley, also aged 19, has just started an apprenticeship having previously trained as an electrician. Kirsty McLafferty, aged 18, is the most recent starter focussing on a Business and administration apprenticeship.
Paul and Kim with a team of 6 technicians,operate from two fully equipped premises at Stafford Road, Wolverhampton and Queensway Business Park, Telford with a ChipsAway mobile workshop in addition.
