Charlotte’s tales of persevering in the face of overwhelming odds to succeed in becoming the first ever Community Land Initiative in the UK certainly lived up the title of the presentation – “Entrepreneurship – Against All Odds”.
The farm had been in the family for many years but by 2003 the land owners were coming under increased pressure to sell the land. Charlotte and her brother Ben, at only 21 and 19 years of age began the project to form a Community Land Initiative and raise the £800,000 need to save the farm. A project that secured Fordhalls long term and subsequently open it to the public as an education and resource centre promoting sustainable/organic farming and healthy living.
Over 35 young professionals attended the event along with 4 invited TCAT students currently studying HND Business studies courses. This certainly gave them a taste of business life, which will hopefully inspire them to become the next generation of Telford’s young entrepreneurs and business professionals.
The next event is on 19th March 2010 at Hadley Park Hotel, Telford.
